'The Earth Does Not Forget' in Berlin

THE EARTH DOES NOT FORGET is a multi-media installation and performance where the sounds of the revolts across the world echo in each other, where our words are engraved on earth to remember the images of our struggles for justice. It starts with Gezi and spreads along with times and geographies. It tells both a personal story and a collection of personal stories. It desires to speak every language, and speak through each of them. And I have to say, it is naive, yet persistent.

THE EARTH DOES NOT FORGET is a section of ongoing artistic research that continuously seeks collaboration.

I asked my friends from 20 countries, the ones I could reach, to send me the slogans they chant(ed). They sent them to me along with their stories. Then, I engraved the words they claimed on earth. Now, I would like to present these tiles to you. Come! Join us and take them home with you. Bring your words to the table and let's toast them.

---------------

The selected films present alternatives narratives outside the dominant ones, breaking the binary structures to intersectional understandings between class, race, gender and religion.

The third cinemas brings decolonized transformative perspectives. Using the immediate, sometimes precarious, technology to bring voice to those who can’t express their own vision, questioning the visual regime from the west.

Understanding south as a counterpoint to neocolonialism, neofascism, social exclusion and marginalization.

Date: 15 October 2019, 18:00

The exhibition ‘Condition Room’ traces the ways in which artists reflect on their ongoing and compelling shift from being a newcomer to becoming gradually a Berliner. The participants of the first panel (also contributors to the exhibition) will discuss the concrete impacts of their lives in the city of Berlin on their art production and hint at the possible trajectories their practices might take in the coming years.
The second panel will be focusing on the making of the exhibition. The exhibition crew will altogether assess the experience of the ‘Condition Room’, the conception of its thematic framework, the preparation of the architectural setting responding to this framework, the accumulated knowhow of working collectively, the inspirations of the project and meditate about what the next step would/should be.
